MINO-YAKI HANA-AKARI SMALL PLATE

Regular price £12.00

Hana Akari means “flower light,” and this petite chrysanthemum plate is designed to “bloom around and illuminate” its contents. Handmade by Shumpou Toen, a Mino-Yaki kiln in Gifu, there is an emphasis on texture and the warm colors of nature. Each one’s scalloped petal pattern is subtly defined by the hue and intensity of its rich, translucent glaze. We think it's a perfect dish for our Trunk Design Ku Washi Incense, but the delicate, minimalist design can plate any dainty dessert, trinket or other little treasure you love to display.

Shumpou Toen is based in Toki, Gifu Prefecture, the center of Japan’s Mino-Yaki (Mino ware), one of Japan’s oldest forms of artistic pottery. The artisans at Shumpou Toen still make all their ceramic pieces by hand, giving them a warm, vaguely rustic quality. Each work is unique and made with particular attention to detail.
