A striking Arita porcelain piece, this tree of flowers vase was made by Seiji Fukugawa, a kiln established during the Meiji Era, appointed by the Imperial Household Agency, and famed for its vibrant transparent blue underglaze and red overglaze.
The vase's previous owner believes it was designed as a decorative gift item and so features an unusual design of a magical tree blooming with different kinds of flowers in red and gold. The branches, leaves and pond below showcase Fukugawa's stunningly bold blue underglaze.
